Therapeutic Counselling

Counselling

A confidential space to understand yourself more fully - your story, your patterns, and the choices available to you.

A figure stands alone at a fork in a path through open countryside, facing a sunrise.

An Integrative Approach

People may seek support because they feel stuck, overwhelmed or uncertain about themselves. Some experience persistent self-criticism; while others struggle with confidence, or their relationships; or there may have been a major life event or transition.

In these moments, we can resort to familiar protective strategies we learned in response to earlier experiences, for example, withdrawal, avoidance, dissociation to name a few. While these strategies may once have served an important purpose, they can sometimes stop us from processing how we feel and prevent us from living in the way we would like today.

The aim of counselling is not to remove our protective strategies, but to help you understand them with curiosity and compassion. Through greater awareness, you are supported to make informed choices about which strategies or ways of relating continue to serve you, and which ones you may wish to change.

Self-Esteem Relationship Challenges Anxiety & Depression Suicidal Thoughts Grief & Loss

The above is not exhaustive; there may be other feelings or life events you would like to explore.

What I Work With

Counselling here is integrative, which means the approach is tailored to you rather than drawn from a single modality. My practice is relational, focusing on the therapeutic relationship we build together and exploring how you are feeling and thinking.

I have supported adults (18+) experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship challenges and suicidal ideation. I also have experience working with neurodivergent clients, including those with ADHD, autism and OCD.

Although every person's story is unique, many share a desire to understand themselves more fully and to develop a kinder, more compassionate relationship with themselves.

I offer both shorter-term and longer-term work.

What Is Talking Therapy?

Talking therapy is exactly what it sounds like - a structured space to talk with someone trained to listen closely and help you make sense of what you're saying. It isn't about being told what to do or being given a diagnosis. It's a collaborative process that explores how you think, feel and relate to yourself and others.

It helps because most of us rarely get this kind of attention. Putting difficult feelings into words with someone who won't rush to fix them or judge you, tends to loosen their hold, and patterns that felt stuck or automatic become easier to see and change.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit. Talking therapy suits anyone who wants to understand themselves more fully, whether that's working through something specific or simply wanting the space to think out loud.
